Probably anyone who has ever created a website using some universal system managed to find a template that appealed to their eye or that they liked a lot. The enthusiasm, however, vanished away as soon as they realized that this lovely template was not so well suited for the given business or purpose. In essence, the same dilemma is experienced by the creators of such universal templates. Either they fine tune it and present it to be for one purpose or they simply don’t have sufficient information on what adjustments would be required to cover other purposes too. And those changes do not even have to be big.
For clarity:
You’re creating a website for a carpenter who needs to dominantly present the gallery of his products on the homepage. You will find a template with a perfect design and a nice gallery, but this gallery isn’t included in the homepage, as there are other services presented by default. The more advanced user will try to assemble different sections and objects together to achieve a similar result. But the visual outcome and functionality are usually not as perfect as the default template setup.
If you get into such a situation, get ready for hours and hours of reworking, adjustments and various other non-standard interventions into otherwise perfect product. And of course, with the risk that any labour-intensive changes will work only until the next template update. The template author has no idea what changes you had made and it is impossible to reflect upon them. Even the virtual world exists in the real world where everything has its limits.
After you’ve gone through all of this, it may easily happen that in a couple of months your carpenter will come to the conclusion that it would be more efficient to start writing a blog about his work and he will want to dominantly present his blog posts on the homepage instead. This often leads to the crisis of personal identity, when you would rather become a harvester of oranges on some plantation rather than to be a website creator. I have already experienced couple of similar crises myself :-)
And that’s why Pixenio is currently working on how to deal with these situations for you. Because we have an ambition to solve it by changing a single setting.
Follow this blog and you will learn more about Pixenio variants in the future.
